Takeda Harunobu, later known as Shingen, was the eldest son of Takeda Nobutora, the lord of Kai province. At the age of 15, Harunobu defeated Hiraga Genshin at Un no kuchi, after his father made a failed attempt on the castle. Despite this success, Nobutora took a disliking to Harunobu, and made plans to disinherit him and send him to live with Imagawa. Harunobu was well liked by the Takeda retainers, and was able to stage a coup (with Imagawa's help) before his father's plan could be implemented. Instead, Nobutora was exiled and Harunobu assumed control of Takeda clan.
